Oko The Dog Acts As A Guide Dog To Replace His Brother’s Blind Eyes

When Tao’s eyes were gone, his friend Oko changed his eyes.

Adoptive mother Melanie Jackson noticed something was wrong with the Golden Retriever’s eyes named Tao, a vet examined it and told Melanie Jackson that the dog had glaucoma. The doctor advised him to have one eye removed due to the pressure built up, and then 11 months later, Tao’s other eye had to be removed.

“It started in February 2019 – he had a normal morning, everything was very good. In the evening, he was acting strangely, I felt that he was in the most pain I have ever seen so we took him to the vet. He was constantly scratching his face. The doctor said that Tao had lost his sight, Jackson said.

The pressure was so great that Jackson had no choice but to help Tao recover from his illness. Not long after Tao had his eye cut off, Jackson brought back another dog to befriend Tao. The puppy, named Oko, later became a guide dog that replaced Tao’s eyes. Jackson created an Instagram account for the duo and chronicled Tao and Oko’s everyday moments.

On Instagram, photos depict Oko sleeping with Tao or walking together or even eating together. Jackson said that although Tao doesn’t jump over the fence and stay closer to her, he enjoys going for walks and hanging out with Oko.
