After being abandoned by his mother after birth, a rare white-faced fawn has found a loving home at a Michigan animal farm, according to MLive.com. Dragon, the newborn deer, is just a week and a half old and is as lovely as his name suggests.
According to Fox 17, Dragon was born at Deer Tracks Junction, an animal farm in Cedar Springs, Michigan.
Hilary Powell, the farm’s owner and the fawn’s human surrogate mom, told the news site that Dragon was abandoned by his mother, most likely because he was born with a white face, which would make it impossible for him to live in the wild.
“In the wild, they’re very, very rare,” Powell said of Dragon’s species.Bunny, the fawn’s mother, is a whitetail Piebald deer.
Dragon, who was born with brilliant blue eyes and a pink nose, was presumably shunned after birth because he didn’t appear like the other fawns, according to Powell of MLive.com.
“Normally, they have a black nose,” Powell told Fox 17 News. “
[A pink nose] is really a disadvantage in the wild, because it is particularly sensitive to the light and can induce sunburn.”
But tiny Dragon is now being loved and cared for.
Powell and her family will continue to bottle-feed the little boy until he is ready to greet farm visitors and participate in deer games.
